City of Oakland is known highly for it's walk able qualities and earned a most walk able city award.
 
Lake Merritt offers plenty of quality walking and running, boating, and children's Fairyland that even I remember my parents took us there when we were small.  
 
Since Housing Prices are increasing in San Francisco too, many people from the City of San Francisco working in the City of San Francisco are choosing to live on the East Bay side for more affordability and desire to live in City of Oakland and Alameda for their close Proximity and easy commute by Bart, Ferry and Driving, or Amtrak for further distances. 
 
City of Oakland is known for the Oakland Zoo, I also enjoyed taking my children when they were small. It 's just the right size to do in a day without too much exhaustion and it is really beautiful.
